E3 2009: Sony Press Conference

Sony closed out the press conferences today at E3 2009.  Trailing behind both Nintendo and Microsoft in the console wars, we keep waiting of Sony to have a breakout year and try to regain their former glory.  With a solid line up on the horizon Sony may just do that.

They came out swinging hard unleashing a bevy of new and exclusive games including; God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIV, Gran Turismo 5, Mod Nation Racers and last but certainly not least MAG.  MAG the most ambitious of the listed titles will boast a truly new experience in online gameplay, as up to 256 players can play at once in this FPS.

As impressive as that list is, the main focus seemed to be on the handheld market as The PSP Go was officially announced with an Oct 1st release date.  This bad boy will retail for 299.99 but won’t replace the existing PSP, simply offer an alternative.  To coincide with all the attention that the new hardware was getting, several PSP titles were announced and included; Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Gran Turismo and new Resident Evil game

Not to be left of the party invitation Sony unveiled a new motion controller that was in the early stages.  It uses a ball sensor at the tip of the controller to send feedback to a camera peripheral.  While not to the scope of Microsoft’s “Project Natal” it appeared to match anything that the Wii had to offer.  The presentation seemed rushed and last minute.  Perhaps it was a knee jerk reaction to Microsoft or perhaps the presenter was merely nervous
