Halloween Kills – Review

The night he came home, again, and again, and again, and again, Halloween Kills! The newest sequel to the reboot of the original that has 4 other storyline branches is back, and this time more gruesome and bloodier than ever. Halloween Kills sure packs the body count, high, and does it in some of the most gruesome, intense ways we’ve seen Michael do this before. Some people will certainly have issues with the film but knowing it’s the protein of the franchise and not the bun, so it can be a little more forgiving, it certainly packs a tasty punch.

Michael played by James Jude Courtney is back, and he is picking up exactly where he left off. To be more specific, Halloween Kills picks up immediately after 2018 Halloween, and shows the alt timeline where Cameron played by Dylan Arnold is still in his Bonnie costume and realizes everything is not as it seems. Laurie played by Jamie Lee Curtis is rushed to the hospital after the encounter she had with Michael during the previous installment. Allyson played by Andi Matichak and Karen played by Judy Greer try to figure out their next steps in taking down Michael from creating more havoc, as their adventure continues and will bleed into the next installment Halloween Ends.

What works incredibly well in Halloween Kills is that the film is unhinged unrelentless and incredibly violent. These kills are gnarly, violent, and graphic and that is what a horror movie should be to some extent. It packs the thrills and excitement while furthering the story between Laurie and Michael more, giving more insight into Michael Myers, and the chaos that he brings with him. The downside to Halloween Kills though is the furthering as Michael as something more than human, this man has been shot, fallen off a roof, shot some more, and burned alive, yet he still steadily walks towards his victims, holds them off, and slays. Michael is supposed to be nothing more than just a human being, but this movie furthers that he is something more.

The violence, the performances, and the insanity that Halloween Kills brings is truly exceptional. If Halloween Ends does not pick up immediately following Halloween Kills that will be a true disappointment as the film ends on one hell of a finale. Halloween Kills possibly has the highest kill count of the franchise, and that lives up to its name. Stack up the bodies, put your feet up, and enjoy the entertaining chaos that is Halloween Kills!

About The Author

My earliest movie memory, outside of my home theatre in my basement, was going to the local Video 99 and wanting to rent ET only to be told by the shop owner it was playing down the street in theatres. My love for cinema has been alive for as long as I can honestly remember. I would frequent the cinema minutes down from my house daily. It was a second home. Movies are an escape from the everyday world, a window into the soul, a distant friend. If I’m not watching a movie, I’m probably watching a tv show, if I’m doing neither I’m asleep.
