The Nightmare Before Christmas – 31 Nights of Halloween

There are very few Halloween/horror movies that you can sit down and watch with young kids that aren’t filled with nightmare inducing scares. There is one, however, that is often discussed not only around Halloween, but also around Christmas. It’s from the mind of Tim Burton and features some very catchy tunes and one Jack Skellington.

That’s right, I’m talking about The Nightmare Before Christmas. The Claymation movie that almost never was. Director Henry Selick stepped up to the plate and delivered one of the most memorable Claymation films… ever.

Oingo Boingo lead singer, Danny Elfman, was still transitioning from pop music to film composition, and thank goodness he did. Not only did he deliver some great music, but he also lent his voice to the singing parts of the lead character… Jack. He also voiced several of the other characters.

The speaking parts of the king of Halloween were voiced by Prince Humperdinck himself, Chris Sarandon and his love, Sally, by the amazing Catherine O’Hara.

Halloween town is filled with all manner of creatures from Wolfman, vampires, witches, and someone who scares the residence of Halloween town… Oogie Boogie.

If you’re one of the few people who haven’t seen the movie, it follows Jack Skellington stumbling upon Christmas town. He decides to take over the role of Sandy Claws and enlists the help of the residents of Halloween Town to pull off Christmas. Things obviously don’t go well, and laughs ensue.

When you mix all these elements together it makes the perfect watch for Day 14 of 31 Days of Halloween.
