Eye Crave Turns 10

A long long time ago I started my website on a free make your own site page. I called it Mackey’s World and I wrote movie reviews based on the VHS I personally owned. I made wallpapers and worked on my web development skills. I could be wrong, but I believe it was in 1995 it all started.

Eye Crave 10

On January 19th, 2001 I decided to go pro, as they say, and registered my first domain name – EyeCraveDVD.com, which took shape over a few years and say writers come and go and its web presence increase. In 2007 the site evolved in what you see now, not the design, but the name… Eye Crave Network.

Things were going good in the early years. Lots of product was coming in. I was churning out DVD reviews like they were going out of style. I brought on new writers because I could not keep up with the influx of material coming through the doors. It was 2002 when I not only landed a top notch writer, but a great friend who has stuck with me through all these crazy years despite the lack of pay, or fame he was promised. You known him as Evil Axel, Axel and now Axel H. A man who can spin the words of the English language as easily as most of us can breath.

I’ve seen the DVD format evolve. I’ve witnessed a format war. I’ve watched home theatres go from a Dolby system to an intricate electronic hodgepodge of devices. I’ve watched popular websites come and go.  I’ve developed my skills as a web developer, a graphic designer, and now a motion graphic artist. I’ve met, interviewed, and even became friends with actors, directors, and other members of the movie making business. These past 10-years have been more than I could have ever expected, or imagined. What started out as a hobby for a movie enthusiast turned into a second full-time job.

Over these many years I’ve made some good friends, some acquaintances, made a few enemies, but stayed true to myself. As my family grew my ability to maintain the site started to diminish partially due to my new role as a father. In 2002, my wife, who has supported me all these years, gave birth to our first daughter, which changed my life forever. In 2005 and 2008 we added yet again to the family and time spent in front of the computer and TV dwindled as I spend more and more time with them.

I’m now at a point in my life were I struggle to continue to keep up at the pace I once had. I struggle to find the time to write everything I’d like. I still get many titles sent my way for review and thankfully I have a few people who still write reviews for those, but it’s something I miss doing while at the same time am glad to just sit and watch movies without criticizing them.

I’ve come to a crossroads in 2011. I’m trying to decide on whether to continue this endeavor as Eye Crave turns 10 today, or do I end it. I have plenty of ideas I’d love to implement here to bring something new and fresh to the over crowded movie website cluster, but time is far too constrictive.

I want to thank everyone who has written for me, guided me, let me guide them, encouraged me, helped me, and most of all I want to thank each of you who have become my friends. I hope all of you bare with me as I contemplate the future of Eye Crave Network.

Happy Birthday Eye Crave… you’ve been here a long time.

Spread the love
