Seems as though Biblical films haven’t been cast out of Hollywood as of yet. 20th Century Fox has made a preemptive acquisition of a pitch to tell the story of Moses and his freeing of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt.
Variety goes on to say that it will be “300” style and will be written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. This will be their followup to their reinvention of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick”, with a graphic novel feel, for director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted).
The second book of the Bible starts with the Egyptians enslaving the Israelites by new the Pharoah. The movie will start with a voice-over by David Wenham as an Egyptian guard is holding a baby over the Nile River – “The Pharaoh then ordered all the male Israelites thrown into the Nile leaving only the female babies to survive”. Okay, I’m kidding, it seems it’ll start in the second book Exodus with Moses narrowly escaping death only to be adopted by Pharaoh.
Complete with plagues and burning bushes the new version will be using the green screen effect to make the movie more epic then the 1956 Cecil B. DeMille version of “The 10 Commandments”. However, there is one troublesome part in the article which has me a bit worried.
…the Cooper & Collage version will also include new elements of Moses’ life that the writers culled from Rabbinical Midrash and other historical sources.
This could play out very bad for 20th Century Fox if they try to change the Biblical version of the story within the movie. What do you think?
