After the somewhat puzzling and underwhelming news of Del Toro’s announcement of being involved in a remake of Disney’s, ‘The Haunted Mansion,’ after stepping away from Peter Jackson’s, ‘The Hobbit,’ comes another, more expected, announcement: Del Toro is going to make his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s, ‘At The Mountains of Madness.’
With James Cameron’s backing!
‘At The Mountains Of Madness,’ marries H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythology to a Science Fiction story about a science expedition at the Antarctic that uncovers alien life forms while drilling for core samples. The aliens lead to a major discovery about the origins of mankind and an enemy so horrific that they are more than a man can comprehend and maintain his sanity against.
James Cameron will be producing the project and the film will be shot in 3D. As reported by Deadline New York, Del Toro will start pre-production shortly with shooting scheduled to start next summer. Del Toro has been working, and polishing, the script with his writing partner Matthew Robbins for a dozen years. This has been a long time dream of Del Toro’s and for horror fans this is their Lord Of The Rings.
