‘Masters of the Universe’ Lives Again

Back in 2008 there was some action on the Masters of the Universe property with Warner Bros. and Joel Silver being involved. Then came an extremely positive review of the Justin Marks script titled GRAYSKULL. El Mayimbe raved about the script calling it a ‘masterpiece’.

Mattel and Warner Bros. eventually parted ways after they were unable to see eye to eye in the creative direction of the film. Enter Columbia Pictures (aka Sony) who now have the rights to the film. With the early excitement over Predators Columbia has signed up writers Mike Finch and Alex Litvak to draft the script for a potential live action film.

I was an avid collector (maybe even player of) the toys back in the 80’s, which my parents used to bribe me to get good grades. It worked I have a tote out in my garage today filled with the classic toys. I remember running home from school just to ensure I caught that days episode and their adventures on Eternia.

In 1987 I remember hitting the theatre for the first live action Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, and Courteney Cox. Then, I thought it was the best thing ever, now, not so much, but I still own it on DVD for nostalgic reasons.

I was excited back in ’08 and I’m excited once again to see if this film comes to fruition.

What do you think? Can He-Man make a splash once more? By the power of Grayskull… I hope it can.
