Ritchie Gets ‘Lobo’

There’s no end in sight for comic book movies and looks like the WB is moving ahead with its next project and it’s going to be the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter Lobo. The Brothers Warner have also secured Guy Ritchie of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch fame to direct.

According to Variety, Ritchie will be tackling Lobo as his next project after Sherlock Holmes, which opens on Christmas day this year.

While little is known of the story at this point Variety descibed the premise as:

In the film, he is a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.

WB is also shooting for PG-13 film and with the grittiness that Ritchie can bring to the picture it could work. The Dark Knight was PG-13 and it was dark and gritty.

As to who will be the blue skined anti-hero in the movie it’s currently unknown but there a plenty of names being tossed around by fanboys such as Mickey Rourke, Gerard Butler, Dwayne Johnson, Dog the Bounty Hunter and James Preston Rogers.

The latest draft was written by Don Payne (FF4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, My Super Ex-Girlfriend) Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce with Steve Richards and Kerry Foster as executive producers. Current plans are to be in production early next year.

This could be a badass film. Only time will tell.
