AFI’S TOP TEN OF 2002

So it’s that time again…

The Chestnuts are roasting…

The Eggnog is fermenting…

And all the critics are snug in their beds, visions of top ten lists dancing in their heads…

The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced it’s top ten films of 2002.
After the debacle of last year’s AFI Awards ceremony, which drew both poor ratings and critical drubbings, the Institute has changed their strategy. This year, rather than announce separate categorized awards – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, etc. – they have decided to simply announce a list of the ten finest films of the last year.

ABOUT A BOY
ABOUT SCHMIDT
ADAPTATION
ANTWONE FISHER
CHICAGO
FRIDA
GANGS OF NEW YORK
THE HOURS
LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS
THE QUIET AMERICAN

Personally, I think they’re shooting themselves in the foot again, as only two or three of these movies have been released yet. Most peoples first instinct will be to assume that there is a fix in, since this provides some nice pre-release buzz for films that normal folks still have to wait for, or have just been released in the last couple of weeks. My opinion, take it as you will…

AFI has also released “Top Ten TV Programs of 2002”, and “Top Ten Moments of Significance 2002” lists you can check them out at the AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE
