The 1998 TV miniseries version of Stephen King’s THE SHINING is finally coming to video January 7 from Warner Home Video. While it was not a ratings success when it aired, for some reason this version of King’s haunted hotel tale was one of the most requested miniseries on DVD. The 2-disc set will be presented in the original 4:3 aspect ratio with 2.0 Dolby Surround Stereo. Extras include a making-of featurette and an audio commentary. More details should be forthcoming.
Also January 7, look for Paramount to release the little-seen Tim Allen comedy WHO IS CLETIS TROUT?. The film will be presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with 5.1 DDS sound. The only extra will be a trailer.
Paramount will also release separate AW and Pan N’ Scan versions of the comedy concert film MARTIN LAWRENCE: LIVE – RUNTELDAT with a behind-the-scenes look at the concert and a trailer. Also January 7.
After raking it in with old school toon THE TRANSFORMERS:SEASON ONE last year, Rhino Home Video will release THE TRANSFORMERS:SEASON 2 on November 28. The 4-disc set will feature all of the second season episodes in the original fullframe ratio with remixed 5.1 DDS sound. Extras will include 2 cels featuring characters from the show, animation mistakes, an interview with writer Earl Kress and the A TASTE OF BOTCON 2002 featurette, detailing the convention and featuring interviews with creators, animators and voice actors.
Disney is readying their second set of the WALT DISNEY TREASURES collection for December 3. Look for 2-disc sets for THE COMPLETE GOOFY featuring 46 short cartoons featuring everyones favorite dog-man-thing, MICKEY MOUSE IN BLACK AND WHITE featuring 34 Mickey tales, and BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE WALT DISNEY STUDIO which will be hosted by that shucker of all things Disney – Leonard Maltin.
On November 5, the children of Ziggy can pick up EMI’s BEST OF BOWIE featuring 47 performances and videos on a 2-disc set… You just know “Dancin’ in the Streets” is on there…
VIDEO STORE magazine has posted an article featuring interviews with many high-rollers in the studio DVD system who outline their plans for upcoming catalogue TV series releases for 2003.
