MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, BABYLON 5 and SOUTH PARK – First Season sets…
20th Century Fox will release a Season One box set for MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE October 28, 2002 featuring all of the first season episodes, an extended pilot episode, several audio commentaries as well as deleted footage and a blooper reel. Episodes will be presented in fullscreen with remixed 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks.
Warner Brothers Home Entertainment will release a first season set of BABYLON 5 on November 5,2002. The set will feature all 22 episodes from the original 1994 season. Details on features and formatting have not been released.
Warners will also be releasing the inaugural 1997-98 season of SOUTH PARK in a box set November 12, 2002. Details have yet to be released on this set, but expect to see the popular episode intros by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and a bounty of extras.
SWINGERS will be rereleased in a Special Edition package from Miramax. The new set will feature Anamorphic Widescreen, audio commentaries by Doug Liman, and ‘illustrated’ commentary by Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughan. Featurettes will include “Making it in Hollywood”, “Writing the story”, “Getting Swingers made”, “Swingers culture” and “Life after Swingers”. The package will also feature deleted scenes, outtakes, trailers, and the short parody “Swing Blade” by Matt Sloan and Chris Cox of Small Shots.
Warner Brothers is preparing a new DVD release for the cult-classic McKenzie Brothers opus STRANGE BREW. The new disc will include an Anamorphic Widescreen transfer, the original Dolby 2.0 sound mix, a theatrical trailer and various clips and SCTV skits featuring Bob and Doug McKenzie. The disc will be released October 1, 2002.
New Line Cinema will release both JASON GOES TO HELL and JASON X on October 8, 2002. JASON GOES TO HELL will get “special edition” treatment with a new Anamorphic Widescreen transfer, audio in Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 Digital, as well as audio commentaries and both the theatrical and uncut versions of the film and the ‘jump to a death’ scene access
JASON X will receive the Platinum treatment with Anamorphic Widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, commentaries with director Jim Isaac, writer Todd Farmer and producer Noel Cunningham, 2 featurettes, trailers and DVD-Rom, as well as ‘Jump to a death’ scene access.
Criterion will release the 1945 Alfred Hitch*censored* classic SPELLBOUND in a two-disc set with a new full frame transfer, commentary from Hitch*censored* expert Marian Keane, a study of the dream sequence designed by Salvador Dali, interviews – including composer Miklos Roza, and a radio version of the script performed in 1948 by the Lux Radio Theatre.
Criterion will also release the 1992 Belgian cult hit MAN BITES DOG, inluding interviews with the filmmakers, a short film, stills and a trailer. Both films will be released on September 24, 2002.
Buena Vista will release a new disc version of THE GRIFTERS on October 8, 2002. The new set will include an Anamorphic Widescreen transfer, commentaries by director Stephen Frears and actors John Cusack and Angelica Huston, 2 featurettes, stills and trailers.
Columbia Tristar will release a bare-bones disc for the Jennifer Lopez film ENOUGH, as well as a slew of vault titles including SHAMUS, VANYA ON 42nd STREET, and HANKY PANKY directed by Sidney Poitier and starring Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner. All to be released October 8, 2002.
Warner Brothers also has a collection of vault titles coming in October. The Clint Eastwood films FIREFOX, HEARTBREAK RIDGE, and A PERFECT WORLD will be joined by THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE HORROR OF DRACULA on October 1, 2002.
