All of the BIG packages and huge releases have already been announced and will see the inside of my player before the year is out, right?
There won’t be any more news until mid-spring, because the studios are all gonna take it easy and start on their 4 month Xmas vacations, right?

After announcing the upcoming release of John Waters’ HAIRSPRAY, New Line has announced a new box set to capitalize.
THE ULTIMATE JOHN WATERS COLLECTION will see HAIRSPRAY added to the mix with previously released Waters gems PINK FLAMINGOS, FEMALE TROUBLE, DESPERATE LIVING, POLYESTER and PECKER. Look for the new set to debut November 5th, the same day HAIRSPRAY gets it’s DVD premiere.
Buena Vista has updated and revamped it’s January slate.
Previously scheduled for January 1, M. Night Shyamalan hit SIGNS will be moved back to the 7th. Also look for direct-to-video sequel 101 DALMATIONS 2: PATCH’S LONDON ADVENTURE and Indie smash TADPOLE on January 21 and indie thrillers ORDINARY DECENT CRIMINALS and TANGLED on January 14.
Martial arts fans can mark down Christmas Eve for Jackie Chan DVD’s in the form of Columbia Tristars releases of HALF A LOAF OF KUNG FU (my personal fave J.C. flick) and THE KILLER METEORS, as well as BLACK MASK 2: CITY OF MASKS starring Jet Li.
AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER was announced last week as a New Line “Infinifilm” release for December 3. Now we have the details on the set. Available in separate 2.35:1 AW or fullscreen transfers, both versions will feature 5.1 Dolby Surround EX and DTS 6.1 ES, Infinifilm pop-up menus , audio commentary and similar extras. Those extras include several featurettes – THE WORLD OF AUSTIN POWERS, M:16 INTERNATIONAL MEN OF MYSTERY, FASHION VS. FICTION, DISCO FEVER and VISUAL EFFECTS – also look for the ENGLISH ENGLISH trivia subtitle track, deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, DVD-Rom material and 4 music videos including DADDY WASN’T THERE and HARD KNOCK LIFE. New Line will also take this as an opportunity top release an AUSTIN POWERS 3-pack featuring GOLDMEMBER and the two previous films, INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY and THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME.
Buena Vista has already announced that 1959’s SLEEPING BEAUTY will be the next Platinum Edition Disney Classic to be released. No date or specs are available, but look for it to follow in the successful footsteps of SNOW WHITE and the newly released BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
More from Buena Vista Home Entertainment in the new year, will include a new batch of classic Disney films on January 14th: THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG RIDES AGAIN,THE HORSE IN THE GRAY FLANNEL SUIT, GUS, THE MOON SPINNERS, super classic THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR and early Kurt Russel flick THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES. Details are yet to be released, but we will have them for you when they become available.
Also on January 14, Miramax will release four catalog titles including SUMMER FLING, foreign hit THE VISITORS, ETHAN FROME, THE JOURNEY OF AUGUST KING and early Robert Rodriguez film ROADRACERS. These will all be bare bones releases featuring only trailers as extras.
