Buena Vista Home Entertainment cuts loose with the nuveaux ‘Bosom Buddies’ flick SORORITY BOYS on October 15th.
The film will be presented in a full-screen transfer and extras will include two featurettes and theatrical trailers.
Warner Brothers has announced a release date for it’s early-summer sleeper hit THE DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD. The film will hit shelves on November 5 in an Anamorphic Wide-screen transfer and a separate release in Full-screen. Both versions will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes and identical features which include an audio commentary featuring director Callie Khouri, several producers and star Ashley Judd. Also exoect to see an HBO making-of featurette, deleted scenes, music video and trailers.
DVD Angle will release a DVD about… DVD’s on November 26th!
The disc – tentatively titled DVD DISCOVERIES will explore behind the scenes production details and use exclusive footage from DVD’s like ALIEN, LEGEND and STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE to go through the creation of a DVD from design to programming and will also take a look at different production companies, including Criterion, New Line, Disney and WB and will take an in-depth look at their separate approaches to DVD production.
Hammer Films are showing up on DVD slowly but surely. Next on the list are two classics starring – who else? – Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
HORROR OF DRACULA and THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN will make their DVD debut on October 1, just in time for the Halloween rush. Both will be presented in their original widescreen ratio in an anamorphic transfer, and will include cast and crew filmographies and trailers.
Dreamworks is prepping a big release for SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON for November 19.
The film will be presented in both anamorphic widescreen and full screen transferswith 5.1 DDS audio mixes. Features will include audio commentaries, a production featurette and trailers as well as a wealth of DVD-Rom material including games, calenders, a mini-editing studio and a computer coloring book.
Kino is set to release a selection of German Expressionist classics in fine new transfers. Robert Wiene’s 1919 THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI will feature a restored print, two musical scores, behind the scenes footage and a 43 minute version of GENUINE: THE TALE OF A VAMPIRE.
Carl Boese’s 1920 fil THE GOLEM will include still galleries, an excerpt from the 1936 french version LE GOLEM, and a look at F.W.Murnau’s FAUST.
Murnau’s 1922 masterpiece NOSFERATU will also feature two scores, excerpts from other Murnau films and scene comparisons.
Finally, Leo Birinsky’s 1924 film WAXWORKS will feature the short REBUS FILM and excerpts from Douglas Fairbanks THE THIEF OF BAGDAD.
The films will be available seperately or in a GERMAN HORROR CLASSICS box set, on September 24.
MGM will release their indie comedy PUMPKIN starring Christina Ricci on November 5.
GANGSTER NO. 1 is set for an October 22 release, and MGM’s World Films Collection will continue to grow with the releases of Paul Verhoeven’s SPETTERS, Pier Pasolini’s THE DECAMERON, Claude Chabrol’s MADAME BOVARY, Pagnol’s MY FATHER’S GLORY and MY MOTHER’S CASTLE, the chinese film THE GREAT WALL IS A GREAT WALL and the Gerard Depardieu film TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR YOU all hitting shelves on November 5.
Specialty distributor Home Vision will release Anthony Pelissier’s acclaimed 1950 film THE ROCKING HORSE WINNER featuring a 20 minute short, excerpts from THE ROCKING HORSE WINNER: A CHAMBER OPERA and an enclosed booklet containing the original short story by D.H.Lawrence.
Home Vision will also release the popular 1964 thriller SÉANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON. Both films arrive on September 24.
Buena Vista is readying a big catalogue title drop for October 8. Titles ill include ALIVE, BIG TROUBLE, BILLY BATHGATE, HOUSEGUEST, JUNGLE 2 JUNGLE, KAZAAM, SINCE YOU”VE BEEN GONE, UNHOOK THE STARS and A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Last, but never least, Criterion has included Jean Renoir’s 1939 masterpiece THE RULES OF THE GAME along with such films as THE VANISHING, ARMACORD and RASHOMON in a festival to play Chicago on September 10. The inclusion of Renoir’s classic likely signals an upcoming DVD release from Criterion in the near future.
