Here\’s this weeks Production News… Exorcist prequel! Catwoman!! Daredevil! Austin Powers 3!! News from Variety…Hollywood Reporter….Coming Attractions…AICN Gabriel Mann will join Liam Neeson and Billy Crawford in the as-yet untitled prequel to The Exorcist. The prequel follows Father Marrin\’s first encounter with exorcism and the Devil. The production begins in Spain and the UK this spring, directed by John Frankenheimer. French Visual effects whiz and Director Pitof is in talks to helm the upcoming CATWOMAN, set to film this summer starring Ashley Judd. Mel Gibson and Robin Wright Penn will star with Robert Downey Jr. in Keith Gordons THE SINGING DETECTIVE. Gibson is also producing the film through his Icon Productions shingle. Joe Pantoliano joins the cast of DAREDEVIL as a reporter who is hot on the trail of the blind crimefighter, played by Ben Affleck. The film is currently in production and also stars Jennifer Garner, Jon Favreau and Micheal Clarke Duncan. Mark Steven Johnson directs. Kevin Costner has signed to direct, produce, and star in OPEN RANGE. The western is said to be about the everyday lives of four men including characters played by Costner and Robert Duvall. Production begins in June in Calgary Alberta Canada. Laura Elena Harring, much lauded for her turn in MULHOLLAND DRIVE, will star in a remake of WILLARD, the 1971 horror classic about a man and his pet rats. When one of his rats is killed, the unstable man leads his pets on a murderous rampage. Crispin Glover will play the lead. John Malkovich and Natalie Imbruglia have signed to star with Rowan Atkinson in JOHNNY ENGLISH. The film is a spy spoof about a bumbling British agent who must foil the nefarious plans of an evil French business magnate. Peter Howitt will direct. MGM/UA has lifted their ban on the use of GOLDMEMBER as the title for the new Austin Powers film. New Line, who produces the Austin Powers films, had previously been blocked from using the name as it is a play on GOLDFINGER, the name of an early James Bond film, produced by MGM. In exchange for the use of the name GOLDMEMBER, New Line has agreed to attach trailers of the new James Bond film, DIE ANOTHER DAY, to all prints of Austin Powers 3, to be released this summer, and to LORD OF THE RINGS:THE TWO TOWERS, due in December. Screenwriter Jonathan Richman has turned in his draft of BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 to Paramount Pictures David Nutter will direct a remake of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN for Disney Studios. The film follows two telekinetic teens who flee to the titular mountain to avoid the government and others who want to use their powers. Scott Kosar has been hred to pen the remake of 1974\’s classic THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE for producer Micheal Bay. Many fans of the original Tobe Hooper film were outraged when Bay announced his intention to remake the film as a PG13 thriller. Universal Pictures has aquired the script RAZORS by Robert Franke. Described as \"The Dirty Dozen in space\" The story deals with the human race overruning the universe and the attempts of a Superhuman race to take over the universe. When the Super humans make their move, humanities last hope turns out to be a squad of the Universes most violent and iredeemable criminals. Preproduction on the feature film version of FAT ALBERT has come to a halt due to conflicts between Bill Cosby and director Forest Whittaker. Viveca A. Fox, Darryl Hannah, Micheal Jai White and Sonny Chiba join the cast of Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino\’s Kung-Fu revenge flick due to start production this summer. Already involved are LaTanya Richardson, Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman, David Carradine and Quentin Tarantino as a 150 year old Kung Fu master.
