The masters of the DVD universe over at Criterion have announced two new titles to be produced – Another in the Powell & Pressburger series THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP (1943), featuring the commentary from Micheal Powell and Martin Scorcese featured on the Criterion laserdisc version. Also look for Jim Jarmusch’s DOWN BY LAW featuring stills and two music videos among other features… October 22, 2002.
Columbia Tri-star will release two of its recent comedies – MR. DEEDS, the sleeper hit still on the Box Office charts, will be released in both Widescreen and Full-frame versions with director commentary by Steven Brill, deleted scenes, 3 featurettes, a Dave Mathews video and spots from Comedy Central and HBO, October 22. On August 13th look for THE NEW GUY featuring a music video and little else. Columbia will also release the classic William Wyler film THE COLLECTOR starring General Zod himself, Terence Stamp on October 1. Micheal Apted’s ENIGMA, and River Pheonix classic LITTLE NIKITA will debut on disc September 24.
2 new Superbit titles have been announced – THE MASK OF ZORRO and SNATCH are being prepped as 2-disc special editions to be released September 17. Rumors are also circulating that – if sales are good – RESIDENT EVIL may get the Superbit treatment in the near future.
Buena Vista has postponed the release of their ED WOOD Special Edition set, which was to have made its bow on August 13. No new release date has been announced.
Lions Gate is preparing what sounds like an excellent set for Bill Paxtons directorial effort FRAILTY, which became something of a sleeper hit this past spring. The set will include three commentaries featuring Paxton, composer Brian Tiler, editor Arnold Glassman, producer David Kirschner and ‘Scenarist’ Brent Handley. Also included will be a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, a ‘photographic presentation’ and FRAILTY’s episode of The Sundance Channels ‘Anatomy of a Scene’ program. It all comes to roost September 17.
Fox will release the latest Angelina Jolie opus LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT on October 8, with direcotrs commentary by Stephen Herek. Fox also has THE X-FILES:COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON on deck for November 5.
Last, and definitely least…
The good ol’ WB is releasing THE BEST OF THE BACHELOR, featuring 30 minutes of never before seen footage!!! Marking the beginning of the apocalypse on September 10.
