‘World of Warcraft’ Update

I’ve played World of Warcraft… for a few minutes one day. Wasn’t really my style of game, but the game world is massive and could generate a fantasy film that could rival Lord of the Rings if handled correctly. With Sam Raimi on board to direct the film has some legs, but with the addition of a screenwriter I’m a little more excited to see what happens.

While talking with the MTV Movie Blog about Drag Me to Hell (fun movie btw) Raimi dropped the news that Robert Rodat (‘Saving Private Ryan’) is writing the film adaptation. MTV went on to say the following:

“We want to be really faithful to the game,” Raimi said. “We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure. Only obviously it’s very different ’cause it’s expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.”

With the massive fanbase the game has keeping faithful and original could work out for everyone. Except those of us who have to cram into theatres with basement dwellers who’ve probably forgotten what a shower is.

Sam Raimi

What do you think? Will this be epic or just another bad game to movie adaptation?
