Avatar has finally done it. It has surpassed Titanic as the all-time highest domestic grossing film. Having passed the $600 million mark his morning, AVATAR now holds the dual title of both the largest grossing domestic, and international, film of all time.

There were few surprises this morning for the majority of the categories. However, with the Academy making 10 films eligible for BEST PICTURE there were going to be a few. Like, UP squeezing into both BEST PICTURE and BEST ANIMATED FILM. UP is the first animated feature since BEAUTY AND THE BEAST to appear in that category.
The most shocking nomination for BEST PICTURE for me was DISTRICT 9. A well deserved nomination in my opinion.

Many, many eons ago, our lovely site editor Shane sent me on a quest to planet Hollywood where I was to seek out those responsible for the new Marvel Animated film Planet Hulk. Although the ride back was a little bumpy, the mission proved fruitful as after I fought several of my online brethren to the death and was able to discuss the sci-fi adventure with some of the filmmakers, and the great Jeph Loeb.

For a few years now we've been hearing about a potential CGI Smurfs movie that was on the go. Recently, the film went into pre-prodcution with Raja Gosnell (Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Scooby-Doo) as the director. A spy recently snapped a shot of what's in store for the Smurfs movie.
