The Fine and The Shine of the Double-O Nine

Disappointments:

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Viewed: VoD

If this wasn’t a different title I could have lumped it together with Observer & Report because they’re nearly the same damn movie and they both sucked. Although, there were a few more laughs here.

Push

Viewed: VoD

The trailers looked good for this one, but it felt flat. It started out strong, but once the main group got together if slowly fell apart. It was like watching a marriage between The Matrix and X-Men through greasy lenses.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li

Viewed: Blu-ray

Where to start? The best part of this film is when Kristen Kruek does her little dance with that other chick. I’ve forgotten the rest of it.

Watchmen

Viewed: Partial threatrical / Full viewing on Blu-ray

Perhaps I should explain the partial viewing. I was at the theatre on opening night when I received a phone call about one hour into the viewing saying my father-in-law was just taken to the hospital. He died about 30-minutes after I got home and sent my wife up to the hospital.

Once I sat down to watch it on Blu-ray I didn’t expect to watch a movie that didn’t have a pulse. It wasn’t a terrible movie but it had no high or lows. I loved the graphic novel, but found myself bored for the whole viewing.

Observe & Report

Viewed: Blu-ray

This movie didn’t know what it wanted to be and just ended up being plain bad. I’ve really got nothing else to say.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Viewing: Theatre

Let me set this on the table. Since I was young Wovlerine was my favourite X-Men. I was stoked when Fox announced this. However, I didn’t expect them to use a script they continuously wiped their asses with. With each viewing (yes I’ve watched it more than once) it infuriates me more and more.

Grrrrr. arrrg!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Viewing: Blu-ray

WTF was Michael Bay thinking. Listen, I know he made a crap load of cash, but this movie made the first look like the greatest film ever made. I’m so glad I didn’t waste money seeing it in the theatres.

Public Enemies

Viewing: DVD

For the first two thirds of Public Enemies it feels as though Michael Mann left large chunks of the script at home during the shoot. It felt incomplete. After the major shootout sequence the movie pulled itself together and was a solid ending to what was shaping up to be a disaster.

Extract

Viewing: Blu-ray

I was extremely bored watching this. The jokes just weren’t there for me. Sorry Mike Judge, but I’ll stick with repeat viewings of Office Space.

A Christmas Carol

Viewing: Theatre

I’m a Jim Carrey fan. Especially in movies that allow him to use his body as part of the comedy like The Grinch. I’ve also enjoyed the movies that Robert Zemeckis has made using performance capture despite the empty eyes, but this movie left me wanting more. Give me Mickey’s Christmas Carol any day of this one.
